"A compact, family-friendly village fed by two cracking red runs at the end of the huge 4 Valleys ski area. Veysonnaz has stunning views across the Rhone valley and is easily weekendable from Geneva airport. On the slopes above the resort is the charming Caboulis restuarant and some lovely ski in, ski out chalets. Put on your skis and enjoy over 400km of challenging skiing from your door. It's a great alternative to the hustle and bustle of Verbier and much cheaper too." – Rob Keddy
Veysonnaz is a small, traditional village perched on the mountainside at 1400m above the city of Sion in the Canton Valais. One of the key characteristics of the village are the unobstructed views across the Rhône Valley, which can be enjoyed all across the village.
The original village of Veysonnaz, complete with classic chalet-style buildings and a cute mountain church, is two hairpin bends below Veysonnaz Station, which has become the main focus for its skiing clientele. Veysonnaz Station has an ample range of cafes, bars and restaurants but this isn't a resort with the lively atmosphere of, for example, Verbier.
This is a resort that is family-oriented, offers great access to the slopes, good views and has a quietly traditional vibe. Think less dancing on tables with a stein and more fine wine on the balcony of your apartment. If you want a night out though, you have plenty of options in Sion or Nendaz.
The lift out of Veysonnaz is an 8 seater gondola which takes you efficiently up to Thyon at 2100m with no queues. From there you have access to a good range of blue and red runs to Les Collons at the end of the Four Vallees or go up to Mt. Etherolla and on to Verbier. If you want to test your nerve try the red run down to Mayens-de-l'Ours, one of the fastest downhills on the ski circuit calendar.
The 4 Valleys pass gives you access to 412km of skiing all the way across to Verbier. Any reasonably proficient skier can ski from Veysonnaz to Verbier for lunch and have plenty of time to enjoy some world-renowned runs before skiing back to Veysonnaz on a network of thrilling red and black runs.
Given that Veysonnaz has access to the huge Verbier ski area and is easily reached, property prices are quite reasonable.
Properties for sale in the vicinity of the lift are mainly apartments in chalet-style buildings which range in quality from small apartments with standard finishes to high-end, deluxe apartments with spa and wellness facilities. Accommodation for seasonal visitors, is primarily focused in the apartments here so the rental potential is excellent.
On the slopes above the lift, there is a cluster of large, new or recently built chalets for sale which have direct access to the main piste and good views across the Rhone. If you don’t want to take the car then put on your snow shoes and walk to the charming Caboulis restaurant in the evening for a fondue.
