If you are feeling like us and you are not ready to end the ski season just yet, then keep your boots on, you are in luck! Fortunately, the start of spring does not signal the end of the ski season, and many resorts stay open for a lot longer. The spring months provide quieter slopes, sunnier skies and a perfect blend of meadowy walks with glacial skiing.
Our top resorts to carrying on skiing through this season are Val Thorens, Val d’sere and Tignes, Saas Fee, Verbier and Zell am See.
Val Thorens – open until 4th May 2025

Renowned as the highest resort in Europe at a striking base altitude of 3230 metres, Val Thorens provides excellent skiing conditions right through to early May. The mighty height ensures the best snow as well as breathtaking sights up in the mountains. The Caron and Maurienne valleys are known to have excellent powder days in spring for those who want to enjoy the freedom of skiing off-piste.
The thriving après scene continues into spring with Dutchweek being one of the resort’s most popular events. The celebration has been enjoyed for over 30 years and offers live music, lively parties and even has a mountain ‘test and ride’ where skiers can try out the latest ski gear for free.
Val d’lsere and Tignes – open until 5th May 2025

Thanks to the Grande Motte Glacier, these two resorts are also attractive to skiers until early May. The glacier at 3656 metres offers 20 km of runs ranging from blues to blacks suitable for many levels of ability. The north facing slopes also mean that snow conditions are great later into the year making it the perfect place for spring skis.
As well as adventuring through the 300km of ski area in the Espace Killy, the resorts host closing season parties, Easter parades, gourmet trails and various other events. If you’re there in spring, try out the 4-day film festival in Val d’lsere, or the Tignes ‘Spring Break’ open-air festival.
Saas Fee – open until 27th April 2025

Although the season closes at the end of April, this isn’t technically true for the skiing. The glacier offers skiing all year round (even in the height of summer) and Saas Fee sees professional athletes in the mountains any day of the year! With a peak altitude of 3500 metres and a resort altitude of 1800 metres, Saas Fee boasts exceptional and loyal snow!
The village is bursting with energy in spring and this year Saas Fee is hosting the ‘Swiss Snow Happening’ until late March. Ski schools from all across Switzerland are gathering in Saas Fee to compete against each other and celebrate the sport. The celebrations will naturally include the après scene with a multitude of parties.
With the slopes open until late, this also means ski races and festivities continue. The Allalin Races are from the 11-12th April this year and welcome amateur skiers to put their skills to the test. The end of season party also attracts visitors from all over to enjoy the lively atmosphere as Saas Fee celebrates.
Verbier – open until 21st April 2025

Boasting 410 km of slopes as part of the 4 Valleys, Verbier is another glacial resort gifting us with a late ski season until late April. Up at 3330 metres, the Mont Fort Glacier keeps the snow fresh, steep and reliable.
In spring you can enjoy the annual Freeride World Tour Finals as well touring the slopes in the warm, spring sun. April also hosts the Patrouille des Glaciers, a ski mountaineering race that attracts spectators from all over the world.
As always, the après scene in Verbier is as lively as ever with the likes of Le Farinet, Pub Mont Fort, and Farm Club keeping the nights young! You might even spot a famous celebrity in spring once the crowds clear up and the weather warms.
Zell am See – open until 21st April

Over in Austria, Zell am See has skiers carving down the mountains until late April/May. In just a 15-minute bus ride from the village centre you can be by the famous Kitzsteinhorn Glacier for some top-quality glacial skiing.
In the centre of the village, Zell am See is home to many red runs making it an absolute paradise for intermediate skiers. Whether you’re by the glacier or enjoying some empty reds and blues, with the spring sun warming your face, the skiing is pure tranquillity.
What’s more, is that during spring, the lake warms up and the meadows flourish, meaning you can truly live the best of both worlds in just one day! Enjoy a snowy ski in the morning before heading down to the lake for some afternoon sun and fresh mountain hikes.
