Exploring Les 4 Vallées

28 Aug, 2024 by Investors In Property

Covering over 410km of slopes, Les 4 Vallees is the biggest ski area in Switzerland and is home to six charming Swiss villages. Although it is tempting to group them under the name of ‘Les 4 Vallees’ each has its unique character and attractions which give the region such a wonderful diversity. It is important to appreciate how they differ in order to make sure that you invest in the one that is truly right for you.

Verbier

One of the most famous resorts not just in Les 4 Vallees, but in the whole world, is Verbier. Although its reputation is high it never disappoints. Standing proudly at 1500 metres, the village boasts a number of enticing runs, lively après bars and is not short of luxury hotels and shops.

Designer boutiques such as Moncler and Bogner and Michelin starred restaurants such as La Table D’Adrien attract those with a higher budget than most other resorts. This is a place in which to see and be seen.

Prestige, however, doesn’t just lie in the resort’s amenities but also in its geographical location. Beautifully positioned above Val de Bagnes, Verbier bathes in sunlight, making each run a spectacular thrill with the most outstanding mountain views. The Mont Fort glacier up at 3330 metres provides year-round skiing and the Tortin slope will have enthusiasts itching to conquer the tricky run. If you’re really in for a whirlwind ski, you can even hop on board with heli-skiing.

Les Collons

If you prefer a more peaceful and slower way of life, Les Collons could be the resort for you. Although it doesn’t score highly in après parties or the shopping scene, Les Collons makes up for it in its serenity, panoramic views of the Matterhorn and Dent Blanche, and its family-friendly atmosphere.

The tranquillity of the village allows all its visitors truly to appreciate its natural beauty without the busy distractions of other resorts. If having a hot chocolate and cosying up to a fire after a day on the slopes is your cup of tea, then Les Collons has an abundance of traditional Swiss cafes to fulfil your desire.

Many invest in Les Collons owing to its convenient location just 20 km away from the capital of Valais, Sion. Sion has its own airport and train station, making accessibility to cities such as Geneva and Zurich hassle-free and quick.

Investing in Les Collons gives you the best of both worlds, allowing you to snuggle up in your quiet mountain retreat, whilst also offering the luxury of thriving places such as Verbier only moments away and 410 km of slopes at your door.

La Tzoumaz

Another village favouring peace over the hustle and bustle is La Tzoumaz. Positioned just 30 minutes by car or cable car from Verbier, many find it hard to believe just how different it is from its neighbouring village – and that is the beauty of it. Spend a day shopping, drinking, and dancing in Verbier and then come back to the welcoming silence of La Tzoumaz for a tranquil evening with the family.

Prices are also satisfyingly lower than those in Verbier, making it an ideal alternative for people wanting to invest in Verbier but who perhaps don’t quite have the budget. In our opinion, value for money in La Tzoumaz is outstanding.

A known family-friendly favourite, the resort is home to ample slopes of all degrees of difficulty, including many beginner slopes. This makes it perfect for families who have a range of abilities and prefer quieter slopes which appeal to less confident skiers whilst they learn.

+ Close proximity to Verbier

+ Unspoilt nature

Nendaz

Nendaz is one of the hidden gems of the Swiss Alps since those who have been privileged already to have discovered its charms have kept it as a beautiful secret. The resort has a perfect location resting 1400 metres up on a sun-filled plateau overlooking the Rhone Valley.

The village has plenty of bars, restaurants, quaint little shops and a range of sports ensuring that come summer or winter, there is always an abundance of possibilities. Although plenty of activities are on offer, the beauty of Nendaz lies in the sense of calm around every amenity. There is rarely a queue or a crowd and the welcoming community of the village provides a kind and friendly atmosphere throughout.

The Nendaz Spa des Bisses is a fantastic spa in the middle of unspoiled nature and surrounded by the most remarkable views of the forest, mountains and village. Although a lot of properties do have their own saunas and Jacuzzis, for the properties that don’t, the spa is the perfect place to visit.

Nendaz truly radiates quintessential Swiss tradition through the architecture of the buildings, the family-run restaurants and the annual festivals such as the Alphorn Festival and the Nendaz Freeride competition.

Veysonnaz

Exuding authentic charm, Veysonnaz is a traditional Swiss village which appeals to people looking to relax and enjoy the stillness of the mountains before or after they spend the day racing through the valleys.

The resort itself is home to some delicious gourmet restaurants set within the village and on the mountains such as Ô Caboulis and La Remointze. However, for more of a dance or late-night bar crawl, we would recommend venturing to one of its neighbours for the night.

Veysonnaz may be most well-known for its legendary slope - Piste de l’Ours. This world-cup run has hosted numerous FIS World Cup races and brings skiers all the way over from Verbier to test the exhilarating pistes.
